Out of Province
Even though most of us have provincial health insurance, universal coverage is not provided across Canada. Ontario residents can be away for a total of 212 days in a 365-day period. Other provinces may have different residency requirements. Also, the country you are visiting may have restrictions regarding residency and taxes. Most Ontario Health coverage benefits can be used in other provinces across Canada. However prescription drugs, certain ambulance costs, return home benefits, return of vehicle, dental emergencies and certain paramedical services are not covered. Some provinces may require ‘up-front’ payment for doctor or hospital services. Additional coverage is advisable to cover these emergencies. All travel insurance has limitations and exclusions and purchasers should know what these are by reading the policy before they depart on their trip.

Annual Multi-Trips
You can make one purchase per year and take an unlimited number of trips of a given duration (4 days, 15 days, 30 days etc.) without having to re-apply. If you are a frequent traveler, this is a very convenient way to provide emergency health coverage. You can come and go whenever you wish, making sure that you have proof of exit and entry into Ontario in case of a claim (example- duty-free purchase receipt).

Top-ups & Extensions
Group insurance plans or multi-trip plans may require topping up if you’re planning to travel for longer than the existing plans allow. Top-ups, as a rule, must be arranged before you leave Ontario, although we do have one company that will provide coverage after you have departed. Existing single trip plans purchased before leaving Ontario can usually be extended by calling us if you decide to stay a few more days. Minimum premiums will apply. Be aware that topping up an existing group insurance plan could present a problem if you have a claim during your initial group coverage. If you require continuing care as a result of the first incident, the existing condition will not be covered in the top-up.
